Growing in Mind, Body, & Spirit

If one were to take a walk down West Broad Street in Downtown Statesville it wouldn’t be long before they stumbled upon a building with a beautiful tree logo on its windows. With an inviting storefront, and relaxing aromas trickling through its doors, Deep Roots Yoga Studio is a physical, mental, and spiritual haven for community members. Once the Yoga Loft, the new studio has been transformed to a place with many unique services designed to provide a foundation of unity for its patrons.

The new owners, Kimberly Harrell and Lynn Bancroft, met through a homeschool group located in Mooresville while teaching their children. Their friendship grew and they began training to run marathons together. Lynn had convinced Kimberly to take a class at the Yoga Loft after suffering a shoulder injury. Needless to say they loved it, and when the opportunity presented itself, they purchased the business together from the previous owner.

“We make a great team.” Harrell shared. “We both have unique personalities that are different from each other, and from that we balance one another, which is what makes our partnership work so well.”

When speaking with these two fantastic women, they explained that Deep Roots Yoga Studio was created with the bible verse Colossians 2:7 in mind, “Rooted and built up in him, and established in faith, as you have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving”. The studio is designed as a place for community members to nurture their roots.

Bancroft added, “We want Deep Roots to be a space where we help others grow in mind, body, and spirit. We look at it as a way to reach out to our community.”

Many unique services and classes, along with your traditional yoga classes, will be offered at the studio. Kimberly teaches a class called Silver Sneakers where senior members of the community can come out to participate in yoga that is catered to their health needs. Lynn, on the other hand, offers classes for children with special needs and they offer a movie night with games so that caregivers can have a couple of hours to themselves during the week.

“It is important that these children have something that they get to look forward to and call their own.” Bancroft said. “To us, this is a mission field and we want to offer services that are unique to our industry.”

The studio has undergone a huge facelift with new paint, lighting, seating, services, an in-house massage therapist, and a new logo. A blossoming tree with long roots will become the new logo for the business. Harrell and Bancroft explained that trees are symbolic of gathering places within communities. They felt that the new logo was a good representation of their vision for the studio. The studio will also feature fresh kombucha and essential oils for purchase.

“Our goal for the space was for it to feel welcoming. We have worked very hard to create a studio that reflects our personality and our mission. Together we have prayed for a refreshed space that will bring joy to others,” Harrell explained.

Deep Roots invites you to attend their grand re-opening on Thursday, October 1st from 10 am - 4 pm. Patrons are also encouraged to stop by, visit the space and enjoy some light refreshments. Throughout the day you can sample 30 minute FREE drop-in classes including Gentle Yoga from 10:30-11 am, Vinyasa from 12-12:30 pm, Senior Fit from 1-1:30 pm, Reflexology from 2-2:30 pm, and Special Needs Yoga from 3-3:30 pm . Their in-house massage therapist will also be doing chair massages for $1/minute.
