Bringing their vision to Downtown Statesville

Michael and Diane Young of LMY, Inc. came to Downtown Statesville to consult with Downtown Statesville Development Corporation on several redevelopment projects that we were hoping to see happen. They fell in love with the streetscape and the community and decided to invest in downtown on their own. In September of 2021, they purchased 212 South Center Street, originally, and now again, called The Jenkins Building, thus beginning a journey that they presented to the attendants of the DSDC Annual Meeting on June 22.

The plans for the Jenkins building include 2 retail spaces and an office on the first floor and 4 market rate apartments on the second floor. The outside façade of the building is being restored as close to the original historical replica of itself as possible, even using the same brick manufacturer and original tin type ceilings and cedar floors. The Young's have gone to great lengths to restore the building back to its former beauty. In addition to keeping it's old bones, they will be modernize the building as well, by adding a sprinkler system, installing keypads and cameras and using reproduction insulated windows.

The Young's used Historical Tax Credits to help with the 1.25 million dollar project. They plan to have the building redevelopment complete in the fall of 2022 and hope that the attention to detail will encourage a premium retail tenant quickly.
