Statesville Police Department Encourages Awareness on World Suicide Prevention Day

Each year, on September 10th, communities across the globe come together to recognize World Suicide Prevention Day. This day serves as a reminder that every life matters, and that hope, healing, and help are always within reach.

At the Statesville Police Department, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our community - not only through safety and protection but also by connecting individuals and families with resources that can save lives. Suicide is often preventable, and one of the most powerful tools we have is awareness.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is only three numbers away: 988.

The 988 Lifeline is a national network of local crisis centers that provides free, confidential emotional support 24/7 to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. Whether you call or text, trained counselors are available to listen, provide support, and connect you with resources.

How You Can Make a Difference

Even small actions can have a powerful impact on someone’s life.

  • Start the conversation. Asking someone if they are okay can open the door to hope and healing.

  • Listen without judgment. Sometimes, what people need most is to feel heard and understood.

  • Know the signs. Withdrawal, changes in behavior, hopelessness, or talk of suicide are all warning signs that someone may need help.

  • Share resources. A simple reminder about 988 could save a life.

Our Community Commitment

Through our community programs, SPD works every day to strengthen connections between officers, residents, and support services. Together, we can break the stigma around mental health and ensure that no one has to face a crisis alone.
