Lifelong resident, Statesville Historian recognized as 2019 Main Street Champion
Thursday, March 12, 2020 in New Bern, North Carolina, at the North Carolina Main Street Center, Downtown Statesville recognized Steve Hill as our 2019 Main Street Champion.
A lifelong resident of Iredell County, North Carolina, Steve Hill has given many years of service to our community and Downtown Statesville. His passion for history and collecting started when he was young and became what is now the Statesville Historical Collection, home to thousands of photographs and other memorabilia collected over several decades.
Steve is DSDC’s source for history, graciously responding to countless requests for old photos to help with façade restorations, new stories for our ghost tours, and data and photos for our revamped historic walking tour. He leads downtown tours for students and visitors, regaling them with facts, legends and original songs. His research over the years has uncovered many unique Statesville stories that will be passed onto future generations.
We appreciate Steve Hill’s hard work, and passion for preserving our local history and are proud to honor Steve as our Main Street Champion.
