New Sitting Wall Allows for Enjoyment of Downtown Sculpture

Last Updated 9/14/2021Posted in Statesville News

Thank you to the Statesville Community Appearance Commission and Sculpture Statesville Committee for investing in the new sitting wall that now surrounds the Mother & Child sculpture that is located near the intersection of East Broad and Tradd Street in downtown. The addition of the new sitting wall allows for passers-by to sit and enjoy the piece at their leisure.

Mother & Child, is a two-part sculpture made of natural steel. It stands over 4 ft. tall and 6 ft. long, and weighs 550 lbs.

The artist, Adam Walls of Hope Mills, NC, created this piece to show the notion of sharing love, nourishment, and experience between a mother and child, as rainwater pours from the mouth of the larger form into the mouth of the smaller. The addition of a sitting wall allows passers-by to relax and enjoy the sculpture at their leisure.

Enjoy public art as a family

In addition to Mother and Child, Downtown Statesville has a growing collection of Public Art throughout the district and we are so excited to share it with you! Visit Downtown Statesville with your family and use these clues to solve the Art This Way Scavenger Hunt!
