Coloring Statesville Book Offers a New Look at Our City

Last Updated 1/26/2022In Downtown Businesses, Statesville News

The new Coloring Statesville Books are here and they are great! It's so neat to see all of the businesses, schools and organizations as well as some of our city's leaders and historic places drawn and ready to color. You can take a tour through Statesville with Rusty the Fox and learn about everything from our festivals to famous people that grew up here to the history of our town.

Coloring Statesville was created by Color My Town and distributed for free to all K-5 students in the school district. Tara Wallace, one of the creators, said her favorite part of this process is watching the kids when they first open the books and see "their town"  and people that they know on the pages. She said they also give each teacher a resource guide to go along with the book that provides activities and teaching tools. One of her favorite activities is the last one, where the students take the book home and "teach" it to their families. The sense of community they feel when they share their pride in their town makes her happy. You can hear the passion that Tara has for this project in her voice. It's contagious.

Many of our Downtown Businesses are featured in the Color Statesville book. These include: Andrea's Ice Cream & Sweet Shop, ARS Elementary School, Banner Drug, Broad Street Burger Co., Carolina Landmark Realty, Connect Iredell, Downtown Statesville Development Corporation, Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce, Groucho's Deli, Iredell County Public Library, Iredell Museums, Mitchell Community College, Pope McMillan PA, Rotary Farmers Market, Smokin' Southern Cantina, Statesville City Hall, Truist Bank, and Twisted Oak American Bar & Grill. You can also visit the pages for Statesville Pumpkin Fest and Sammy the Fire Dog to learn more about them!

The Coloring Statesville Book is currently available for sale at GG's Arts Frames & More located at 101 W. Broad Street and Andrea's Ice Cream & Sweet Shop located at 115 South Center Street in Downtown Statesville.
