Main Street Director Search Underway in Statesville

Downtown Statesville Development Corporation (DSDC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic professional for the position of Main Street Director.

Charged with administering the 40-year-old Main Street program for the City of Statesville (pop. 28,419), DSDC’s mission is to champion, promote and lead Downtown Statesville as the economic, social and cultural engine in the region. This is achieved in collaboration with public-private partners working together to enhance the appearance, desirability, and vitality of downtown.

The City of Statesville, located along I-77 and I-40, is a thriving and growing community that offers central access to all that North Carolina has to offer. Charlotte is 38 miles to the south along I-77 and Winston-Salem is 39 miles to the east. Lake Norman, the state’s largest man-made lake is just 15 minutes away and the famed Blue Ridge Mountains are less than an hour away to the west.

Recognized as a “Balloon Town” (hot air balloons), a two-time All-America City winner, an award- winning downtown streetscape, and one of the “South’s Top 8 Hidden Tracks of the Southern Music Scene”, Statesville has a strong culture of fun and charm, and a reputation for being a great place to explore via trails, greenways, sidewalks, and backroads. Downtown Statesville boasts celebrated restaurants, breweries and unique shops and businesses. The small town charm and family-friendly events held throughout the year provide for an exceptional quality of life.

The ideal candidate for the Main Street Director position must be approachable, personable and have strong project management, communication, and presentation skills. He or she will have a strong focus on development, business retention, new business prospects and recruiting of businesses. Knowledge of event planning is a plus. He or she must be able to foster and maintain good relationships in the community with an open-minded manner, consistently using good judgement. This person must have exceptional leadership skills, the ability to handle complex projects, and be able to collaborate with other organizations, staff, agencies and partners.
